Underrated galloper Irish Songs continued his happy knack of getting up at big odds and getting under the skin of punters when scoring at Eagle Farm.

Since arriving in trainer Louise White’s Sunshine Coast stable after previously being trained by Kurt Goldman, Irish Songs has won at $41, $10, $26 and saluted at Eagle Farm on Saturday when being sent out $16.

In hindsight it was luxury odds given that two starts earlier, the veteran eight-year-old had won the Listed Glasshouse Handicap during the winter carnival on his home Sunshine Coast track.

After nailing the Tatt’s Members Cup (1400m) on Saturday, jockey Jake Bayliss said he was amazed the evergreen gelding had kept being ignored by punters.

“All his starts he goes around at a quote (big price in betting) but all in all, he was probably one of the better horses in the race today,” Bayliss said

“I had one instruction and that was to stay off the fence and I was there after three strides.

“He relaxed well enough for me, the run just opened up and he really knuckled down and put them away nicely.

“His work was enormous on Tuesday on the course proper on the Sunshine Coast, I came here with plenty of confidence.

“The form was there, just everything had to go his way and it worked out perfectly.”

Another pair of horses in double-figure odds filled the placings with runner-up Bullfinch ($11) chasing home Irish Songs while Animate ($26) finished third.
