It was a “gutsy win” on a wet track that brought plenty of smiles to Gold Coast-based hoop Robbie Fradd’s face.

Steering Kwanza to victory in Sporting Chance Foundation 1200m Open Handicap in race six at Corbould Park yesterday, Fradd was upbeat about the six-year-old gelding’s prospects at a metro meet.

The Louise White-trained horse was “a bit toey” according to Fradd ahead of yesterday afternoon’s race as some miserable conditions set in.

Those conditions may not have suited all chances but Fradd said they definitely aided his ride.

“I’m impressed with Louise (White, Currimundi-based trainer), she’s got him going very well,” the experienced Fradd said.

He liked Kwanza’s chances in the city, impressed by his most recent ride in Brisbane.

The win on Kwanza marked a double for the White-Fradd combination after Fradd guided Wimpole St to victory in Race 5, the Class 3 1800m Sunshine Coast Volvo Handicap.
